From “Tin Cup”- always a favorite! There really isn’t much to say that already isn’t there…

What is the golf swing by Roy McAvoy?

Well, I tend to think of the golf swing as a poem.

The critical opening phrase of this poem will always be the grip. Which the hands unite to form a single unit by the simple overlap of the little finger. Lowly and slowly the clubhead is led back. Pulled into position not by the hands, but by the body which turns away from the target shifting weight to the right side without shifting balance. Tempo is everything; perfection unobtainable as the body coils down at the top of the swing. Theres a slight hesitation. A little nod to the gods.

Yeah, to the gods. That he is fallible. That perfection is unobtainable. And now the weight begins shifting back to the left pulled by the powers inside the earth. It’s alive, this swing! A living sculpture and down through contact, always down, striking the ball crisply, with character. A tuning fork goes off in your heart and your balls. Such a pure feeling is the well-struck golf shot. Now the follow through to finish. Always on line. The reverse C of the Golden Bear! The steel workers’ power and brawn of Carl Sandburg’s. Arnold Palmer!

End the unfinished symphony of Roy McAvoy

There’s only one other acceptable theory about how to hit the ball.

GRIP IT AND RIP IT!

“Under Construction” is such an overused phrase. Whether it’s a building, a website, or just a re-invention of someone’s life- it’s definitely the buzz word. I went out to play with the camera one day a while back. I wanted to find great fall environmental stuff. I went looking for where the trees grew over the road back in the mid-cities. It’s the only thing here that reminds me of some of the great east coast country roads. I found what I was looking for, but it was littered with road construction signs. I guess that’s one of the things that just happens. It’s kind of sad really. Sometimes you think that things might be better if they went back to the way they were before.

Who knows what the future will hold- will the process of growing be better? Or will you always long for that old back country road?

Welcome!

Historically, I have not been known as much of a writer. Not at all, actually. But Im going to try. I want to document the adventures in life, job, happiness, people, everything. So, I scrounged up a title from an old Herbie Hancock tune we used to rif to back in college, and I’ll go from there. Perhaps I can be a little deeper than my only published work- where to go to party in Downtown Dallas a few years back for a sports magazine. THAT was deep. But who knows, in this little crazy world of ours, maybe I’ll find something to say.

So again, welcome.
